The "I wonder." was referencing to my curiosity about the availability of hardware docs. The really difficult stuff would be adding drawing, irqs, CD-ROM, and sound (which wouldn't be horribly bad if they are documented.) If the x70's dma & extra opcodes are at all documented it's not a problem to extend FBA's Musashi 68k core.

But MESS (MAME) have improved this driver a lot and there are some videos in Youtube with games that work fairly well. And, IIRC, it use to support gamepad through the mouse (it means more unplayable even than the real thing). I'm not some noob that undertakes projects he knows he can't do. CDi Emulator is the classic option but it have been discontinued for a long long -long- time. So technically speaking, the CD-i is more powerful.I'm not sure what your "I wonder" is in reference to.

Not compatible, CD-i uses custom Philips 68070, Neo uses in most cases a TMP68HC000 which would only be backwards software compatible (The CD-i's CPU is faster clocked 15.5 versus 12, so you could theoretically use it's chip in a Neo by splitting the clock, but not reverse) and the Genesis has a slower clocked CPU as well, but a generic off the shelf m68k 7.67mhz. It's a motorola 68k - same that's in CPS1/2, NeoGeo, and Genesis.

When the reality is that PS2 is really just a step or two behind GC.I wonder what cpu that system uses. I agree there should be more open source projects with portability to other systems, but considering how well PS2 is emulated (I think 95% of the library?) and the ease of use of the primary emulator, I think it's unfair to say N64 emulation is in a better current state than PS2 emulation. Conversely, PJ64 is riddled with community issues (associated with being spyware, now using a nag screen) and mupen is super unfriendly unless you're using the libreto core. PCSX2 is relatively easy to use, plays a good chunk of games, and is improving all the time (recently added PS1 support). You say that the 2 emulators for the N64 are healthy, but one of them is using an outdated plugin system and the other is command line based with almost no GUI options (I think there's a Python GUI for it that works decent enough).
I get that you're referring to future potential, but that's not addressing the current state. By that logic, Dreamcast emulation is in a better state than PS2 and GC is in a terrible state. I think it's completely disingenuous to say that just because there is 1 working emulator for PS2 that, it's in a worse state than N64. I worded my question wrong, but you answered what I meant.
